The Fred T. Korematsu Institute – in our second year of our partnership with the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) – are working to spread the word about the power of the vaccine to lessen the impacts COVID-19 in communities and on daily life. We are particularly keen to share appropriate safety measures, dispel any misinformation about the vaccine and COVID-19 and reach out to racial and ethnic minority groups that may be underserved and undervaccinated due to language or access barriers or even xenophobia.
We hope that by reaching out to educators, parents and students with accurate and up-to-date, valid COVID-19 information, we can help answer any lingering questions with reliable, current information on our portals to reach unvaccinated pockets of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities and beyond.

As of June 2022, COVID-19 vaccines and boosters are now available for everyone over the age of 6 months in the United States! The CDC has a tool to find a vaccine provider in your area as well as information on vaccines and any side effects, vaccinations, and pregnancy and how long it takes to be considered fully vaccinated. You can search for a provider on their web portal or text your zip code to 438829 or call 1.800.232.0233 to find locations near you.

Here are some resources in support of CDC COVID-19 recommendations available for limited-English-Proficient populations. The information is available in Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, Chukkese, Dari, English, Kinyarwanda, Korean, Mixtec, Pashto, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, Thai, Tongan, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese, and Urdu. They also provide COVID-19 informational audio public service announcements (PSAs) for the visually impaired.

We celebrated our Fred Korematsu Day program, in partnership with the Asian American Pacific Health Forum (APIAHF) on January 30, 2022. Our event focused on the theme of social responsibility and our #GetVaccinated campaign to increase and featured an educational webinar with our host journalist Rosie Nguyen speaking with experts in the field, Dr. Janet Lam and epidemiologist Tracy Lam-Hine about myths and misinformation about COVID-19 and influenza vaccines and answering all our audience questions. The Fred T. Korematsu Institute was also pleased to present our inaugural Fred Korematsu Social Justice Award to actor, producer, and activist, Daniel Dae Kim.
